Robert Pattinsons vampire heartthrob takes romance to the next level with The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 1The next-to-last film in the supernaturally popular franchise features the long-awaited wedding, honeymoon and birth for Edward Cullen (Pattinson) and Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart).
LOS ANGELES Robert Pattinson wasnt even sure he wanted to continue acting. Then Twilight descended, and the British heartthrobs star did more than ascend. It became jet-propelled. Its like having a very complicated maze to go through and youre also being propelled by some kind of jet as well and trying to figure out how to go through a maze at the same time, Pattinson said about coming of age with Twilight during a recent press conference at the posh Four Seasons Hotel. Ive said it for years now, I didnt even know if I was gonna continue acting before this happened.
And I have much more of a drive and passion for it than I ever did before. The passion only seems to grow among Pattinsons fervent fans, too. The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 1, the fourth film in the blockbuster franchise based on Stephenie Meyers supernaturally popular vampire romance books, opens in theaters Friday and is expected to again have hordes of Twi-hard fans flocking to cinemas. The penultimate chapter in the series focuses on Pattinsons benevolent vampire Edward Cullen and his human fiance Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) taking their romance to the next level marriage. With their lavish nuptials complete, the happy couple travels to an island paradise for their honeymoon, But the honeymoon comes to an abrupt end when the bride gets pregnant. The impending birth of their child not only endangers Bellas life, it also threatens the Cullen clans fragile peace with the local werewolves of the Quileute Tribe, including Bellas best friend, Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). In the broadest terms about Edwards journey, right from the beginning, I took out and just ignored the fact that hes a vampire, basically ignored the fact that hes 108 except for kind of metaphorical purposes, and you were just left with kind of a troubled teenager, Pattinson said.
And its a really simple story of him getting content with himself by finding a woman and then having a child, he added with a laugh. Which is I guess how a lot of kind of troubled guys kind of balance themselves out. At least thats the hope, anyway. Director Bill Condon and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg divided Meyers weighty fourth and final novel into two halves, although both parts were filmed concurrently. Even with the split, Breaking Dawn Part 1 brought plenty of challenges, particularly as the story moved into more adult themes, including the consummation of Bella and Edwards romance and especially the dramatically bloody birth scene. of their child. I read the script before I read the book on this one; it was the first time Id done that. And so I read that scene being kind of astonished.
I mean, I knew it was kind of crazy, the story, but I couldnt really believe that it was actually written down and we were gonna do it. And it was terrifying going into it. But it ended up being one of the most incredible scenes to do in this movie. I mean, theres definitely a kind of R-rated or maybe NC-17 rated version of a few scenes in this movie.
But it was just incredible to do, he said. With so much violence and desperation gestating in the scene, Pattinson found both a freedom and surrealism playing it. Youre suddenly playing Edward stuck between a kind of emaciated dummys legs chewing through a placenta and getting cream cheese all over your face and strawberry jam and then pulling a 3-week-old baby out, too, with a wig on, he said, lau
